So, I love Tidus/Yuna in X, and I think that Auron at least totally plays matchmaker with them. Lovely, lovely ending scene where Yuna and Tidus hug and get their bittersweet moment of tragedy, but more and more, I think that Tidus is best as someone in Yuna's past. Like, I think Yuna's real passion is helping out everyone and Spira and that settling down with someone romantically wouldn't be for her. So, I'm really thinking that Tidus was basically there to give her that experience of love, and now that she's had it, she can really be content.
