Summary: After citizens of Rabanastre have been growing ill from a mysterious waterborne illness, Queen Ashe sends Penelo to go to the Archadian colony of Spira to recruit the help of the genius alchemist Rikku. There she becomes Rikku's servant for the duration of the assignment and they discover that Rabanastre's problem is one that's been plaguing the island for years. Now it's up to the both of them, Yuna, Lulu, and Auron to find the solution that will clean both Spira's and Rabanastre's water supplies, but not everyone wants to see Spira saved.

I believe I have what would be called a complete first-draft. 28,000 words. Phew.

To absolutely nobody's surprise, it's going to be a post FFX-2 fic. It focuses on Rikku and Paine(probably also paired, but in a background sense) on a salvage mission to the Zanarkand Ruins. The basic premise is that Yuna is in the process of creating the Spira Museum with the mission of honoring all the people's of Spira and fostering a wider cultural understanding in the post-Sin world, Rikku and Paine are sent to the Zanarkand Ruins on a collection mission. There they meet a group of Unsents (from the original Zanarkand civilization) who are upset at all the smugglers who have been taking artifacts from Zanarkand since the Eternal Calm started. Rikku and Paine are then charged with tracking down the smugglers and stopping their operation.

Right now, I'm thinking it will take place within the Good Ending and having Tidus as a minor but crucial part of the plot.

I've decided against participation in hc_bingo in part because of everyone's concerns (maybe next year, after they've had some time to refine). There's also the more selfish reason that the h/c fic that I need to read/write isn't directly covered by any of the prompts (maybe one, but I'd refuse to write it under that prompt), and I don't want to mix any of the other prompts (a lot of which are easy enough to do wrong on their own, without them being shoved to the background) with the thing I want to write. So I might write/edit that one on my own and maybe post it.
