I've been using 750words to keep a steady progress on my draft. So far I'm at approximately 8000 words, and I'm just painting in broad strokes, with extra details and more minor plot points to be filled in later.
To tell the truth, it's refreshing to write something that's both plotty and non-sexual/non-romantic. I think I've determined that the story itself is going to be gen/mostly-gen, although with enough interaction that it might be shippy, but it's mostly about the plot and ladies running around solving problems and being awesome (if it says anything, Auron is the only man in the 'main party' so far, with Balthier and Vaan playing minor roles to assist).
I'm also having to work around and change some of the cultural dynamics on Ivalice!Spira. Like I still have the Yevonites and the Al Bhed, and they still dislike each other, with the Yevonites having the connection with the Espers and the Al Bhed salvaging parts and creating machinery, and I think until this threat arose, the Yevonites generally had the upper hand, so there's that rivalry. Except that also, the way Sin has been re-imagined, the Al Bhed actually do have technology that lets them largely avoid the problem, while the Yevonites are more hindered by it, and are, in some ways, dependent on the Al Bhed to provide for them. In other words, the balance of power is very different in Ivalice Spira than it is in Original Spira.
