‘Straight Pride' shirts become free speech fight.

I have to wonder when 'free speech' in high-school (i.e. saying bigoted and defamatory things during a week that's specifically about being anti-bully) trumped making kids feel safe and not disrupting their learning environment.

*shakes head*

P.S. the standard rule "Don't read the comments" applies.

I don't know that it ever didn't. I think bigots are always the first to claim their rights to be who they are (partly because they've never had those rights denied them).

I'm really cynical. I just see the same arguments over and over again, from desegregation of schools, to coed schools, to LGBT students being out... same damn tactics, same stupid t-shirts with different slogans, every time.
