Have you ever wanted to just do a whole bunch of long rants and hope that someone gets the meaning of it somewhere. And not just that, but not had enough time or words to just do what you really wanted to say? Welcome to one of those weeks. I've been meaning to to a number of rants on a number of things and yet not had the time to do any of them.
Oddly enough, this rant springs from a discussion that Me-chan and I had about the lastest single from MAX: "Love Screw." The quality of the actual song is up for debate (she loves it, and I'm not too fond of it), but the real issue is with the contents of the lyrics. I'm sure for most people they're probably not a big deal, but she's pretty conservative and I have ... issues. I've looked up some choice words in my Japanese-English dictionary that I have on my lappie and it's quite obviously a sexual song. But is it vulgar? Not necessarily.
The problem with this situation is that Me-chan, who is very definite in her ideas of sex and marriage loves the song to death and it happens to be in her voice range. She asks me where the 'dirty' parts of the song are so that she can skip over them. The problem is twofold: First that a lot of the worst stuff is in euphemism, and I really don't want to explain or interpret it for her. Two, it's not just snippets of the song that are sexual, it's the entire thing. Not wanting to ruin the song for her, I mentioned something about how she should sing it onceday for her husband and situation averted. But it leads me to the actual rant, which I have not shared with her.
People, regardless of whether they enjoy sex or not, consider it to be 'dirty'. It's in our usage of words associated with sex: Virgins are pure; people who enjoy thinking about sex have dirty minds, etc. Actually, sex itself isn't dirty. Really, it's just another form of physical affection, be it an extremely intimate one. Just a natural behavior and survival instinct like eating or sleeping. But it's intimate enough to make people uncomfortable and universal enough that we can't just leave it alone.
Sex is kinda central to our lives. I mean, there's at least one sexual encounter in everyone's life that is pivotal to their existance (conception), and just about every society has some sort of ritual or distinction between the time between pre-adolesence, adolesence and adulthood. Just about every coming of age story to come out of Hollywood or the American publishing industry mentions sexual discovery in some context or another. When you think about it, all romance is just a sanitization of sex. Just a form of seduction, to which we've attached some sentimentality to. It makes something that is natural (because thinking about it natural = dirty = unnatural) and makes it all nice and pretty for us.
I suppose I just think of sex as being what it is. It's up to everyone to decide what's right and wrong for them. Yes, despite my words, I prefer to think of sex and a certain type of love as being connected. But there are other people who view sexual desire as merely a physical reaction and others who see it as a form of power. So it can't be inherently wrong or dirty because there are so many reasons for doing it. It's only really dirty if people take it that way.

List of Dagas's life while we're here.
Well, there's some RP stuff I'd like to put up, but everything is on the fritz again, so I'll prepare another journal entry/rant later.
Over and out.

- Yeah, I stood up Neko boy. Sorry, I'm depressed, anti-social, and currently withdrawing from everyone. Also, I really don't appreciate being asked if I get over the anti-socialness. And if you had a problem with me cancelling the DDR thing because of *gasp* a stomachache, good for you. You should have told me. Cramps are bad enough as they are, bitter boys just make it worse.
- Me-chan and I checked out some of the JAC last Saturday. She's officially addicted to Hikaru no Go. Don't ask me to count the number of times she's played the theme songs. It's a good show, although I'll leave the addiction to her. The other two that we stuck around for, "Azumanga Daioh" and "Full Moon wo Sagashite" were cute. AD was really, really, just insane. You'd have to go in knowing that it makes no sense whatsoever and be able to accept it. FMoS made slightly more sense, although it was also mainly appealing for the cute factor. I like Takuto though, even if he just a nuigurumi (stuffed-animal) taken human form. There were more serious things, but honestly, I've not little patiences for dark anime type thingies.
- Sadler-sensei is a Monday occurence I've observed. That's not nice. She's so much more demanding than Takeuchi sensei.
- I have the strangest urge to play KH again. Maybe it's the fanart I saw, or the fact that I re-read Me-chan's 'Dream's come True' or just the fact that I've had Simple and Clean and Hikari playing almost non-stop. Whatever it is, I wanna play it again.
- Gaia has been kind to me. Since the last time I wrote in this journal, I've had two wooden trunks (uncommon items) and one gift box (rare item). Currently the rare item, infrared goggles are up for sale, but I could just sell them to a shop and have plenty of money left for the bunny ears.
