dagas_isa: Kanzaki Nao from Liar Game (Default)

*sigh* Hayao Miyazaki has once again proved himself a genius. I finally managed to watch "Castle in the Sky," which has got to be one of my favorites after "Spirited Away." It doesn't quite have the detail of the latter, but the characterization of the people was wonderful. The pirates were hilarious, and it was more action packed that Miyazaki usually does.

Anyway, I'm using this as a gripe space now. I've been browsing on FFN,and there have been a few (only a few?) things that bother me. So here's my response to them before I completely blow up and flame the poor authors.

1. I suck at summaries Look, I know that writing a catchy summary isn't easy. Trust me, I can't do it worth beans myself. But just saying that you suck at them is the worst summary of them all. And if you can't be convinced to actually write a cohesive summary, the story's not likely to be good either. Just take a step back and look at your story. What is it about? Which characters are involved? What is the major event. If you can't think of anything catchy and appealing, a simple: "Character A and B do this and this happens. What will happen then?" There are tons of fics on FFN, and people who just say, "I'm not going to give you a summary but read and review it anyway" are unrealistic. The summary is a filter. Take advantage of it.
2. I think my story sucks, what do you think? Unless you are specifically looking for a mentor, nit-picker to go through your work, never say this. Are there a few things I've posted that I'm less than proud of? Yeah. But nothing that I completely think sucks has made it to be posted. Are you trying to embarrass yourself? Then continue. Are you just fishing for compliments? *shakes head* Sure that's your right to look for compliments, but if you don't think your story is worth anything, chances are most people won't either.

Over and out.
