Crypticism

On the DVD front, not only do I own "Spirited Away" but I am also the proud owner of "Castle in the Sky" "Kiki's Delivery Service" and "Princess Mononoke." And let me just stand still for a moment while anyone reading this pelts me for being so materialistic.

Do you have a secret? One that you know isn't really all that bad, but one that you know people wouldn't approve of. Especially those close to you. Yeah, I've been carrying one for awhile, but I'm not sure whether or not it's anything big. But it's something that I'd have to find out for myself it were true or not, and yet, I'm too afraid to find out because if it were true, I'd have a lot of explaining to do to everyone close to me. And I'd like to talk about it, but that might make people believe that it's true regardless of whether or not it is.

The Rain

Hmm . . . It's raining . . . It's pouring.

Methinks I would like to play in the rain. I don't know there's something about running around and getting soaking wet by the power of nature that makes me feel so wild. Something about the half-dark sky and the sheets of rain that come pouring down my limbs and tangle up in my hair, that makes me go into some trance-like state. See, nature has this power, this raw power that none of us can control. And we tend to forget it on those bright and sunny days. Gray skies are a promise, the tingling chill that something uncontrollable might come, so we better watch out. Storms . . . well, I love the daytime storms, but they keep me awake at night. The lightning reminds me that not even indoors are we safe (especially those who sleep under an open window). Rain, just hard, drenching rain, is playful power. Nature showing us that she is boss, but she's being nice about it. She's sharing it with us.

My favorite one happened on the last day of seventh grade. I had suddenly started raining just as school had let out. And just walking across the street to my house had completely soaked me. Especially because that was the year that deserved its own circle in my version of The Inferno. I just felt . . . cleansed.

Oh well, how's that for randomness?
