dagas_isaSpeaking of Liar Game: I caved in and watched the trailer for Liar Game Reborn. AKA the Liar Game sequel without Nao. To tell the truth, I'm a little more reassured now. Not like...OMG yay, like I would be with Nao, but like I'm willing to see what this is about.
Liar Game Reborn
So, the thing that gets me is that Yuu...isn't coming across as a replacement for Nao, even though their concepts are very similar (honest girl, needs Akiyama's help). For one, Akiyama started off as a disreputable stranger that Nao had to rely on, whereas it looks like he's actually Yuu's teacher. So...there's more of an existing reason for their interaction, and it doesn't...necessary ignore Nao's role in Akiyama's life or indicate that he had to have forgotten her. In fact, it's very easy to headcanon that they're actually married, and Nao's busy doing something else off-screen.
And this headcanon is helped a bit by the fact that in comparison to the Final Stage trailer (see below), the Reborn trailer isn't actually selling the shippy interaction. Not that it ever stops someone from shipping it, but the trailer at least isn't even trying to intrude on Aki/Nao. It just reads like Toda Erika was unavailable.
So, unless I hear that my headcanon is contradicted, I'll probably give it a chance. And then, maybe write the fic where Nao scolds Akiyama for going off into danger without her.
