Summary:Natalia's first impression of her partner.
Notes/Warning: Written for the [community profile] origfic_bingo prompt: arranged (blind) date.

Natalia leads the cloaked and masked figure from the meeting hall. Neither of them speaks, and with their limited knowledge of the Sadiri language, speaking itself might be futile. No, she spends the walk between the meeting hall and her room silent, nervous.

Partnerships in the Sadiri sense, run deep. This isn't the Casarran Guard where reassignments were given out to those who would work better elsewhere until they eventually functioned nowhere. People in Sadir believe in fate and in the bond between a leader (Natalia) and her seer (the person who walks behind her). Whoever this person is, the Sadiri will expect Natalia to freely give and accept trust from them. Him? Her? The cloak and mask obscure any identifying features Her partner shuffles behind her—and the significance of this is muted. Is this her partner's natural gait, or a show for the person who is to become leader. Is this puffed out swagger that Natalia uses to lead natural? An exaggeration of her usual walk? A show for this person who follows? They both perform.

Natalia reassures herself that mutuality is a good sign.

The grey cloak falls to the floor. Male, the figure is male—stocky and about Natalia's height—and when the mask comes off, Natalia's first observation is that her partner is almost as pale as Zara's partner—not the same ashen gray as Yirith perhaps, but close and too pale to be a simple northerner. Southern sun has not touched him at all. His features otherwise are coarsely pleasant

Her partner introduces himself. "I'm Mier, from the town of Aurelin in Chentin. I look forward to working with you." Already, Natalia knows more of him than just his name and home territory. He makes himself understood even when his words are incomprehensible. He speaks the Chentin language, not the few clumsy words of Sadiri everyone was taught upon their arrival. He's a willworker.

A willworker and the Chentin?

It occurs to her; she's been chosen for something.
