More character meme-ness!

For [personal profile] muusu, Fukunaga is experienced. For one thing, you can't convince me she's younger than 30 and my headcanon puts her more in the range of 36-40, and she's had a much wider range of experiences than either Akiyama or Nao (and probably pretty much anyone else we meet). I imagine that Fukunaga has not only observed more of human nature than anyone else in the story (save the dealers, maybe), but she's mostly accepted people for who they are, good and bad.

Fukunaga has her code of ethics. With the exception of her first appearance, she's all about reciprocity and deal-making more than straight up scheming. She likes the money, yes, and she likes winning, and she's a bit of a trickster, but she also makes sure that her cohorts/victims are at least getting some tangible benefit out of it. If she's getting more from it, it's only because she earned it by orchestrating the whole arrangement. And it really ticks her off when people either can't offer anything in return for what they demand (read Kikuzawa) or straight up screw others over (Yokoya).

Fukunaga is ultimately practical. If there's anything she straight up wants, it's to leave the game on her own terms and with a profit if possible. How it happens doesn't matter, and she's not trying to prove a point. She doesn't care about the corporation, and I don't think she really cares about ultimately winning as long as she's on the winning side. And actually, if anything shocks Fukunaga, it's seeing otherwise smart people make choices that go against their self-interest.

Fukunaga is the extrovert. Compared to Akiyama, who really only interacts with others in order to either a) execute a plan or b) explain things or Nao who mostly talks to others for the purpose of helping them out, Fukunaga tends to be around people just to be around them. She's never by herself, she socializes easily, and when the choice is between standing around and brooding or spending time in the company of lesser beings, she'll take the company. She is also, IIRC, the only one of the main trio who doesn't live alone, and the only person who has mentioned outside relationships (roommate and acquaintance) within the context of the story.

Both Akiyama and Nao are important to her. Yes, crush, Akiyama. I know. It's canon. But all I'm saying is that Fukunaga spends more time interacting with Nao than Akiyama, and that Fukunaga is the one who usually initiates contact with Nao, not the other way around. I'm not sure if it's actual fondness so much as it's a sense of mutual trust and acceptance even if it is mixed with a touch of befuddlement.

For [personal profile] owlmoose, Kimahri thinks in images and sensory details rather than words. His view of the world is observational and concrete rather than abstract and he doesn’t expect people to fit into certain preconceived boxes if his observation doesn’t fit it. He trusts his senses more than he trusts common wisdom.

That said, his lack of connection to words makes it more difficult for him to parse human reactions. Sometimes, when the words really get flowing and he’s trying to keep up with the conversation, I imagine he gets overwhelmed and loses his head. He definitely prefers observation to conversation, and does not care to play verbal games.

Yuna is the most important person in the world to Kimahri. When he left Gagazet, he found at least a short-term purpose in taking her to Besaid, and until the moment he was welcomed back to Gagazet, Kimahri’s idea of home ultimately connected to Yuna rather than a specific place.

Kimahri has never quite belonged anywhere. He was a runt on Gagazet, lost his horn, lived among humans for ten years, and though he returns to Gagazet it’s more as a leader than as a member of a family. I think his status as an outcast made him more stubborn than the average Ronso and keener on proving himself, though he’s definitely mellowed out as he’s gotten older.

That said, Kimahri is a Ronso, identifies as a Ronso, and ultimately belongs in Ronso society. I don’t think he would voluntarily give up Gagazet or the Ronso to remain with the humans, even if they did make him an outcast, and he never actually joined in with human society, and I don’t think he really ever had any desire to.
