So...I just watched the first episode of the Odagiri Kyoko j-drama.
On one hand, I know enough about the manga to know that they've basically cut the drama from whole cloth, and maybe not in ways I'm comfortable with. Like concept is the same, and the mystery in the first episode was the same as the mystery in the first chapter, but everything else is totally different, especially the main characters. Manga = Odakyo as an established fortune-teller who basically built her own image, Taniguchi as a recent college graduate who ends up working for her, after he discovers her psychic powers are fake. Drama = Odakyo as a young woman who's forced by her spoiled cousin to pretend to be a psychic on TV and Taniguchi as a detective who is seeking out a psychic that the police department can use.
On the other hand...it's total crack--hilarious, cheesy, on-what-planet-does-this-make-any-sense crack, and it's adorable (and so is this version of Odakyo), and the about a groping ghost was executed as unskeezily as one could possibly hope for. And the thematic similarities between this and Liar Game are already apparent enough that this drama feels like home. I wonder why that is.Kaitani fangirl much? *cough*
ETA features a showdown with a psychic pig. Crack.
