dagas_isa: Kanzaki Nao from Liar Game (Default)

Everyone knows that I think that FFVII is pretty much a big soap opera with the welcome addition of meteor. So all the "FFVII is the best game EVAR!" people. I'm sorry, I really am. Now on to the character analysis.

Cloud: To go back to my Gata Salvaje days, Cloud is the equivalent of Luis Mario, the main hero. Yeah, the viewers are supposed to be all wuuv wuuv over him, but looking at him, I realize that this guy is only hero material because 1) He's at the center of the story and 2) Nomura said so, and no one messes with Nomura and gets away with it. He's spiky, he's blocky. He gets his butt molestorized by men twice his age, and he gets Mako poisoning. This on top of his spooky scary type past.

Aeris: Okay, as a Kingdom Hearts fan first and foremost, I renamed her Aerith, because having to watch Aeris on the screen time after time after time would have driven me insane by the end of disk one. She's like the tragic lead female hero. Born in adversity, and oh so speshul, and brightening up the little dark corner she calls home, all she needs is a connection to a very rich and influential family to round it out. I wonder if President Shinra had any illegitimate children that we don't know about. Hmm.... (And yes, I know that she isn't, but for the sake of soap opera cliche, she might as well be).

Tifa: Yes, she has big polygons, and the childhood friend of our 'studly' soap-opera hero. This means that she gets the short end of the stick by being the woman who has the unrequited love for Cloud, and even though he's never shown her any sort of interest. Also because she's the childhood friend and not the shining mysterious stranger like Aeris, Cloud will never really love her because he's hoping that every Resurrect Aeris rumor going around this interweb is somehow true.

Barret: He's the Gruff Lovable sidekick No. 1. He's got the tragic past and the prosthetic arm gun to make up for it, and if this were really a Telenovela, he and Tifa would eventually realize how much they love each other and use some of the random money they make blowing up Mako Reactors and killing monsters to get married sometime in the series, only to have Barret mysteriously get poisoned on their wedding day. By one of the Shinra people trying to knock off Cloud.

Red XIII: The cute token talking animal. Probably with a British accent, or if this were in Spanish, a Castillan accent. He of course is the loyal pet and sidekick of the mysterious perfect shiny Aeris. Because in this Telenovela, things always come back to either the brooding male lead or the perfect female lead.

Yuffie: She's the undependable rogue type although with a good enough heart that she ends up on the side of the good guys anyway. Of course, she isn't in love with Cloud, which must have some deep profound meaning, because no female isn't in love with the brooding hero unless there's some deep significance behind it.

Cait Sith: He's of course the secret repentant traitor, who learns what life is all about from the leads. Since the first one sacrificed himself so nobly, of course he must have an identical twin who replaces the first one, so that the first one is never talked about again. Except for the fact that the second Cait Sith probably spends a few cut scenes brooding about that until the Supreme Hero Duo reminds him that he's a side character.

Vincent: Token cool guy. He's got the cape, he's got the claw, he's got the long dark hair. So he's the dangerous background character who gets hoards of female fans because even though he doesn't really have much main plot significance, except for the arbitrary tie to the villians, he looks cool. Oh yes, and the cape. Because the cape automatically adds 10 coolness points.

Cid: He's the scruffy guy that all the viewers know would look good if he just got a makeover. Not only are the characters oblivious, fortunately for his coolness factor, he doesn't get the scrub down makeover that the producers might have demanded if the fangirls had gotten to them before production was over. I bet that he would have gotten the makeover if Special Female Lead hadn't died within a few plot points of meeting him.

Sephiroth: The diabolical villain, of course with some bond to the hero. Of course he's insane. *yawn* Of course the hero has memories of him *yawn* Of course he's out to get Special Female Lead, and probably because of some unrequited love-hate type of desire from her *yawn* And really, this is the best villain Square can come up with. Well, 100 million raging Sephiroth fans can't be that wrong, can they?

In other FFVII news, I've been chocobo breeding. And of course I made Lana into a Gold Chocobo. Just because I needed the cute reference. I think between FFVII and FFIX, the chocobos almost make up for the sadistic overgrown chickens of FFX and FFX-2. Sorry, if a bird casts Choco-meteo on me, it better be prepared to be barbecue for a nice summer party, Megumi and the Chocobo Protection Society aside.

And now I'll try and see if I can make an entry about my real life.

Over and out.-

Did you play the same game I did? Cloud's had a crush on Tifa since they were both kneehigh. He went off to become a big hero to impress her. Aeris was the one with a huge schoolgirl crush on him just because he reminded her of Zack. Who she was only dating because he was a badass SOLDIER member. Considering his "Wait, the mother lives there too, that's out" comment, I assume they had lots of "Lookit me, I'm a rebel" sex.

I think the game tiptoes around saying they have mutual unexpressed feelings for each other quite a lot.

And Cait Sith's just a robot being remote controlled by Reeve, so there really isn't alot of angst to attach to his getting smashed.

I know...

I'm just taking the whole angsty part of it and applying what I know of Spanish-language soap operas to it. I'm psychotic like that. ^_^;;
