For [personal profile] owlmoose - top five fic cliches.

1. Kidfic, Part 1: Yes, I am a total sucker for kidfic of almost all kinds, but my favorite is probably seeing canon-characters as children, either during their actual childhood or through some sort of deaging. More particularly, I like seeing them at the age range of about 5-10 years old.

2. Kidfic, Part 2: Adult canon character A having to deal with a younger/de-aged version of previously adult canon character B. Again either during the actual timeline, if the age difference allows it, or through some unexplained circumstances. We can also expand this with the unexpected need of adult canon characters to take care of a kid.

3. Alternate versions of characters (or even better same actor/actress=same character in alternate universes). Jewel Staite is probably the best example of this (c'mon Catalina and Kaylee?), but we could also do something with Rikku and Bubbles or Kanzaki Nao and Kimoto Mami. Basically actors/actresses, what are those? If those two people look alike, then they must live in parallel existences to one another! Occam's razor!

4. Calling armistice on this ship war: OT3! Basically if you've got a love triangle where Character A loves Character B and Character C loves character B, then the obvious solution is to make Characters A and C fall in love too and have a nice, happy threesome while the rest of the ship warriors continue to fire the canons. They will then have tea served afterwards, while making entirely irrelevant commentary about the commotion going on in the harbor. And then there will possibly kids in their future, who will then be warned by the parental triad about the dangers of nautical warfare. See the note above about being a sucker for kidfic.

5. Five things is so.... a format cliche. And one twist.

i. Five things are fun and easy to write.
ii. Just think of a theme, and think of 5 situations cleverly relating to it.
iii. It's the fictional equvalent of a 5 paragraph essay!
iv. And coming up with a title is easy! Just say 5 something somethings and you're done!
v. Plus they're really readable too.

vi. And if you add a sixth, contrasting situation, it looks totally clever.

Bonus cliche: Character X gets a puppy/kitty/rabbit/duckling/baby cthulhu.

Interesting batch. I like your take on Five Things; I like it too, in theory, although in practice I haven't done it much (but one of my favorite things I've ever written is "five ways Tidus/Yuna happens post-canon"). Same with OT3: love the idea, have almost never written it. I do like how it can solve shipwars. :)
