Party Time

So remind me again, why I hate parties.

It actually went fine last night, once the party started. T'was the hours before that were horrible.

The thing about throwing huge parties, or doing anything that requires a lot of last minute prep, is not only will something go wrong, but there will be another set of chores that require attention.

So, one, I have to help my mom get ready for the party. Two, I have to get myself dressed, and my hair in some semblance of order, with my comb mysteriously missing (In all irony, it was the first thing I saw this morning when I woke up). Three, I have to get packed for college and get my room in another semblance of order. Those are the things that got planned out.

And emergencies, or just plain ol' no one planned these things come up. The debit card and checkbook that my mom told me weren't going to arrive by the time that I had to go off to school just happened to arrive today. So I had to activate the debit card right then and there. And having my problems with common sense, it probably wasn't as straightforward as it could have been. And then a more serious problem arose. I was going to be a responsible girl and put my debit card right in my purse. Only my purse seemed to be mysteriously missing for some reason. And then I figured out what happened: I had been an idiot, and left my purse at Target yesterday. All my ID and a Borders gift card were in there. So I had to convince my mom to drive me to Target when she picked up the ice and the chips we needed for the party.

By the time I actually had someone at the door, I was a nervous wreck. Yume was such a good sport though, and very understanding. Of my circle of friends, Inu and Tano showed up, Me-chan showed up for a little bit as did Chard. Yume and Sabi were also there too. But it was primarily an adult party, with both co-workers of my mom and dad, my dad's family, some close friends of my mother's, the neighbors, and the couples that they go partying with on a regular basis. So once Sabi left, I could just do some shallow socializing, open my presents, and go to bed.

The funniest/saddest part of the evening happened when Sabi-chan left. As much as she's a 'good kid' like the rest of my friends, even if she likes to pretend she's corrupt and evil, Sabi-chan is a motorcycle chick. So of course, having only herself to carry, she rides the motorcycle to the party. No one notices as she rolls in, but as she leaves a bunch of people on the porch notice that she's riding the motorcycle. Namely a bunch of men, my father among them. So my dad starts asking me questions about Sabi, and whether or not she has any tattoos to speak of, and whether or not I'll be getting them too if I hang out with her in college.

At least my mother shows up then and lets my open my prezzies before it gets too scary. Oh, and Chard supplied me with my addiction: A bottle of apple cherry juice.

Overall, it wasn't bad. I didn't break down, and I might have had a smile on my face during the whole time. I got to see Cheryl again, who for an adult, completely rocks. She's been someone that I've known since the age of two. Willie, the guy who occupies the other corner of our intersection (I can't just say across the street due to some completely illogical mix up that gives us three houses across the street from us), trying to con his way into getting some of the take for himself. The Bruces showed up, telling stories about the five-year-old me.

Actually, one part of the prep wasn't horrible, and actually quite enjoyable. I had to get my hair cut and redyed at Foltos. And for the first time, I actually had Foltos himself doing my hair. Usually it's Chris who does it. So I've got new red streaks, and variations of brown and orange from the faded first dye-job, and it looks really cool. Time-intensive, but cool. There was a boy from the town north of us in, and he's going to U of I as well. So Foltos introduced us, and gave us free T-shirts. Coolness.

So, I'll recognize him from the fact that he's going to be the only other one on campus with a Foltos T-shirt.

Well, life is starting again.
Over and out.
