KH2 talkings, but first...

Finally! Jais has her glasses, and she looks like a Goddess from the Geek Pantheon (and yes, it's Geek, not Greek).

All right then, I actually decided to go all KH2 Endy and stuff, although without the masochism of the Jiminy Journal, so I still have to find the "Supar Secret Ending" on the interweb.

Before I managed to get to the World that Never Was, I was prepared to deliver full-on snark and wonder why the heck KH2 had any right to be made. Let it be said that I do not like how they treated the Disney-based worlds in this game. While in the original game, there was a narrative thread that connected all the worlds, in this one, all the worlds seemed to be quick recaps of their respective movies.

The second round of boss battles also drained some of the life from the game. Squeenix made some nice tweaking to the battle system, and introduced cool new features, but in many of the boss fights, they are unusable. I know they wanted to emphasize the use of reaction commands over anything else, but it seemed to me there was really only one way to defeat any boss monster.

The third thing, I think, that sort of took the life from the game for me was the organization. >.> *prepares for fanbeating from her f-list*. They were amusing, don't get me wrong, but I just could not get attached to the majority of them. As a whole, I'm attracted to the emotional/inner life of a character, and most of the nobodies didn't have anything resembling that. Take Demyx. He amused me, yet the entire way he came across was fake. Darling, I can't care about fake. It's not my nature. In the end, I think the only one's I really cared about was Axel, and maybe Namine and Roxas. Axel might not have had emotions, but whatever his little nobody mind planned, was bigger than him to the point of sacrifice, and that I think is actually intriguing.

So, now, let me stop complaining and explain why I'm going to give Squeenix another wad of cash when KH3 comes out: I love the way the final world played out. The confrontation between Sora and Roxas, the Final Form, Kairi with the Keyblade and talking back to Saix (let it never be said that Kairi was a vapid wimp in this game) Riku (oh god yes, Riku squeefangirllove), the shock of Riku taking on Ansem's shape, and the feeling of redemption and breakthrough that happened when Riku finally let that shape go. Roxas and Namine meeting again vis a vis Sora and Kairi worked, not only from a heartwarming perspective, but also a comedic one just from the look on Sora's face. I liked the fact that the final fights with Xemnas were Sora and Riku, instead of Sora alone like a lot of the final Ansem fights in the first one, though yes, they did frustrate me. I liked the ending, though it sometimes did remind me of a Disneyworld commercial.

"Sora and Riku, you just defeated the head of Organization XIII, what are you going to do next?" "We'll we're going to Disney World"

Kingdom Hearts 1 exploited the Square/Disney crossover, and did it well, but I think Kingdom Hearts 2 played to its greatest strengths when it could focus on the original material. I liked Twilight Town, and loved The World that Never Was. Hollow Bastion (and it will always be Hollow Bastion to me and not Radiant Garden), was all right and perfectly entertaining, although the climax in the story seemed to be more of a game mechanics thing, then a real turning point.

My hopes for Kingdom Hearts 3 is that they stop trying to feed Final Fantasy and Disney characters into the game, and start concentrating on the Kingdom Hearts canon. Also, I'd like some girl-gay to make up for the truckloads of boy-gay subtext that permeate the narrative. Kay, thx, bai.

Now where this leaves Starless: I'm going to have to give it up. With only KH1 and Deep Dive, it was just another speculative fanfic. Lana, Talio, and whoever the last guy were, were inspired by the characters in Deep Dive (and Axel), which was fine if I could have established the story/concept ahead of time. Right now though, those characters are Namine, Roxas and Axel, and I can't bear to become one of those people who takes the look of a canon character, changes the name, and makes them OOC. Please forgive me, and Sorry for the Inconvenience.

Over and out.
